IUKF Winterfest Training Session

It was my pleasure to observe the annual International Uechi-ryu Karate Federation Winterfest training session that took place in Mount Dora, Florida on March 10, 11, 12, 2017.  The instructors were exceptional and the participants trained with enthusiasm and dedication.

It was rewarding to see such excellence in martial arts by all who participated.  I also had the honor of sitting on the testing board and witnessing martial artists that demonstrated extremely high levels of accomplishment in their respective rank test requirements.

Those testing came from Germany, Canada, Argentina, Cuba and America.  Each individual that tested was awarded their respective testing rank and titles where appropriate.

If you have an opportunity to participate in or observe an IUKF training session, I highly recommend and encourage you to do so.  Your martial arts will truly benefit from your involvement.

Why The Name South China Martial Arts Alliance

I have been asked frequently about why the name South China Martial Arts Alliance was selected for our organization.  The name originated as a result of the extraordinary efforts of Hanshi George E. Mattson while promoting Uechi-ryu internationally over the last fifty plus years.  Hanshi Mattson recognized the need for the formation of a martial arts organization for martial artists who were not Uechi-ryu stylists and could not join IUKF (International Uechi-ryu Karate Federation) and benefit from its services.

In 1996, Hanshi Mattson was appointed Chief Consultant of Wushu for the New York United Fuzhou Friendship Society.  In this position, he created the South China Martial Alliance to provide legitimate services to organizations, schools and individuals whose martial art system had roots in Southern China.

To this end, Hanshi Mattson recently put together a group of martial artists to formalize the structure of this organization to serve this martial arts community.  Putting together a martial arts organization is a difficult task at best.  The SCMAA Board of Directors will continue to work for the improvement of services available to its membership and welcomes membership input to accomplish this task.

Please submit ideas you may have for website improvement and/or services that you would like to see provided by SCMAA to Tom Bentley at bushitombentley@gmail.com.
